Video streaming

When video is streamed, it is sent in compressed form over the Internet and can then be seen by the viewer in real time. With streaming video or streaming media, a viewer does not have to wait to a complete file to play it. Instead, the media is sent in a continuous stream of data and is played as it arrives. The viewer needs a player in their computer/ iPad, which is a special program that uncompresses and sends video data to the viewer's display.
A tutor can upload a video to a streaming service which is: free (YouTube); a fremium (Vimeo); or a paid service (Screencast). There are other services too, but to my knowledge these are the most common ones. Some universities and institutions have their own streaming servers too.
